Email Setup Guide

Why use your own email?

Sending cold emails from your own address (e.g. dave@yourplumbingcompany.com) builds your real domain reputation and gives recipients a genuine address to reply to. It takes 2–5 minutes to set up and makes a meaningful difference to deliverability.

Google

Gmail

1

Enable 2-Step Verification

Go to myaccount.google.com → Security → 2-Step Verification and make sure it is turned on. App Passwords won't appear without this.

2

Create an App Password

Go to myaccount.google.com → Security → App passwords. Under "Select app" choose Mail, under "Select device" choose Other, type "KrytenForge", then click Generate. Copy the 16-character password shown.

3

Enter your details in KrytenForge

Select Gmail, enter your full Gmail address (e.g. dave@gmail.com), paste the App Password (not your normal Google password), and enter your display name.

Note: Why an App Password? Google blocks direct password login for third-party apps. An App Password is a one-time code that bypasses this safely.
Microsoft

Outlook / Microsoft 365

1

Check SMTP AUTH is enabled

If you use a personal Outlook.com account, SMTP AUTH is on by default. If you have a Microsoft 365 business account, your admin may need to enable it at admin.microsoft.com → Settings → Mail → SMTP AUTH.

2

Use your normal password

Unlike Gmail, Outlook lets you use your regular Microsoft account password directly: no app password needed (unless your organisation enforces MFA without app passwords).

3

Enter your details in KrytenForge

Select Outlook, enter your full email address (e.g. dave@outlook.com or dave@yourcompany.com), your Microsoft password, and your display name.

Note: Microsoft 365 admins: if SMTP AUTH is disabled organisation-wide, you'll need to enable it for the specific mailbox under the Exchange admin centre → Mailboxes → Manage email apps.
Zoho

Zoho Mail

1

Enable IMAP/SMTP access

Log in to mail.zoho.eu → Settings (gear icon) → Mail Accounts → your account → IMAP/POP/SMTP Access. Make sure SMTP is enabled.

2

Use your normal Zoho password

Zoho allows direct password login via SMTP. Use the same password you log into Zoho Mail with.

3

Pick the right server

EU accounts (mail.zoho.eu): use smtp.zoho.eu. Global accounts (mail.zoho.com): switch the host to smtp.zoho.com in KrytenForge using the Other option.

4

Enter your details in KrytenForge

Select Zoho, enter your Zoho email address, your Zoho password, and your display name.

Note: Not sure which server? Try Zoho (smtp.zoho.eu) first. If you get a connection error, switch to Other and enter smtp.zoho.com with port 587.
Yahoo

Yahoo Mail

1

Generate an App Password

Go to Yahoo Account Security (login.yahoo.com → Security) and click Generate app password. Choose Other App, name it KrytenForge, and copy the generated password.

2

Enter your details in KrytenForge

Select Yahoo, enter your Yahoo email address, paste the App Password (not your Yahoo login password), and enter your display name.

Note: Yahoo requires App Passwords for any third-party mail app, similar to Gmail.
Other

Any other provider

1

Find your SMTP server details

Check your email provider's help docs for their SMTP host and port. Common examples: Fastmail → smtp.fastmail.com:587, iCloud → smtp.mail.me.com:587, ProtonMail → requires ProtonMail Bridge app (127.0.0.1:1025).

2

Select Other in KrytenForge

Select Other from the provider buttons. Two extra fields will appear: enter your SMTP host (e.g. smtp.fastmail.com) and port (usually 587).

3

Enter your email and password

Enter your full email address and the password you use to log in to that email provider (or an app password if they require it).

Note: All SMTP connections use STARTTLS encryption on port 587. If your provider only supports port 465 (SSL), contact us and we can enable that for your account.

Ready to connect?

Head back to settings and select your provider.
